CENTRAL OAT OS 405 – SINGLE-CUT OAT VARIETY FOR THE CENTRAL ZONE OF INDIA

SUMMARY

An improved single-cut oat variety, Central oat OS 405, was developed under AICRP on Forage Crops & Utilization and released and notified for cultivation under timely sown, normal fertility and irrigated conditions in the Central Zone of India. The new variety Central Oat OS 405 developed at Forage Research Section, Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar by pedigree method of breeding from a cross between HJ 8 × Kent. This variety gave 454.2 q/ha green fodder yield in Central Zone which was 10.0% and 11.7% higher than the national checks Kent and OS 6, respectively. It also showed superiority of 31%, 20% and 52% green fodder yield than the zonal check SKO – 90 (HZ), JHO – 99-2 (NEZ) and JHO 2000-4 (ZC-SZ), respectively in All India Coordinated Breeding Varietal Evaluation Trials (average of three years over different locations) in Central Zone of the country.
